It is defined by a certain set of behaviors, and is a so called “spectrum disorder” that affects individuals differently, and to a varying degree. One characteristic is, however, a variable deficit in social interaction and communication skills. Internationally we see a consensus among experts suggesting that the number of individuals with autism is growing. Epidemiological results indicate that ASD affects 1 % of the global population, and is more common in males than females.
